Kayleigh's Crafts - Make Your Own Stress Ball

Hello!

Today we're a straw bracelet, but the same method can be applied to make a necklace too. 

To make these yourself, have a look at our YouTube video or follow this step-by-step guide.  

You will need:

• Balloon
• Rice
• Funnel/Measuring Jug
• Sticky Tape (optional)

Step 1:

Stretch out your balloon. 

Take the neck of your balloon and wrap around the sticky tape so make the opening of your balloon a bit easier to access (this is optional, but can help!). 

Take your funnel/measuring jug and begin to pour your rice into the balloon. Pour a little bit at a time and make sure the rice is in the body of the balloon and not the neck.

If you have rice in the neck of the balloon, shake and wiggle it down so it sits in the body. 

Make sure not to over fill your balloon, as this could cause your balloon to burst!

Step 2:

Once your balloon is full, tie a knot or 2 into the top of your balloon to secure. 

When you're done... 

Have a think about some other things you could fill your balloon with. What about flour or porridge?

Kayleigh's Crafts - Make Your Own Printed Butterfly

Hello!

Today we're making a printed butterfly!

To make these yourself, have a look at our YouTube video or follow this step-by-step guide.  

You will need:

• Butterfly Template (Download here)
• Paint
• Cardboard Tube
• Scissors
• x1 Cotton Bud
• Pen
• Glue

Step 1:

Fold your template in half so the fold line is down the centre of your butterfly. 

Paint one side of your butterfly. Don't worry about keeping in the lines. Don't take too long with your painting, as you need to keep the paint wet.  

Step 2:

Fold your paper in half along the line you made in Step 1. 

Once you've patted down your butterfly half to spread the paint to the other side, open your paper and leave to dry. 

Step 3:

Once dry, cut out your butterfly wings.

Step 4:

Paint the outside of your cardboard tube and leave to dry.

Step 5:

Cut your cotton bud in half. Draw a face (if you want to!) onto the top of your cardboard tube. 

Glue or use sticky tape to attach the cotton buds to the inside of your cardboard tube. These will be your butterfly's antennae. 

Step 6:

Glue your cardboard tube onto your butterfly wings. I find it easier to use PVA glue and glue down the body section on the wings and then attach your cardboard tube.

When you're done... 

Have a think where you butterfly can go. Will it sit on your windowsill or perhaps you could attach some string and have it hanging somewhere in your house.

Kayleigh's Crafts - Make Your Own Sensory Treasure Bottle

Hello!

Today we're making a sensory treasure bottle!

To make these yourself, have a look at our YouTube video or follow this step-by-step guide.  

You will need:

• Clear Bottle or Jar (must have a lid)
• Rice
• Small Items
• Food Colouring (Optional)

Step 1:

Gather your small items together. You need to make sure these can fit into the neck of your bottle or jar. Make a list of all the items you are using so that when you find them, you can tick them off. We used things like toys, coins, keys and jewellery like rings and brooches.

Step 2:

Fill your jar with rice about 1 inch or so. Depending on the size of the neck of your jar/bottle you may need to use a funnel.  

Add your first small item and then cover with another inch or so of rice. Repeat this process until your bottle/jar is full and you've used all your items. 

Leave a small amount of space between the rice and your lid so you can easily move your  

Step 3:

Go treasure hunting! Move your bottle/jar around in your hands, shake it and look at it from all angles to find each item. As you find something, tick it off your sheet. 

(Optional):

If you'd like to colour your rice, add a few drops of food colouring to your rice and leave to dry before beginning the above steps. You could make your jar with one colour of mix in a variety of colours and make a rainbow bottle/jar. 

When you're done... 

Have a think about other things you can use instead of rice, how about porridge or flour? Will it be harder to find one item or lots of items?

Kayleigh's Crafts - Make Your Own Finger Print Tree

Hello!

Today we're designing our own finger print tree.

To make these yourself, have a look at our YouTube video or follow this step-by-step guide.  

You will need:

• Tree Template (Download Here)
• Paint

Step 1:

Add your chosen coloured paints onto a flat surface, such as a plate. 

Step 2:

Dip your finger into one of the paints and dab your finger onto the tree branches. 

Step 3:

Leave your picture to dry. When it's ready, have a think about where it can go. Pop it in a frame, attach it to a card, or put it up in your window? 

When you're done... 

Have a think about how you'd like your tree to be. If you'd like an Autumn themed tree, use a mix of yellows and oranges. For a summer tree, use a variety of greens. Let us know what colours you would choose in the comments below!

Kayleigh's Crafts - Make Your Own Straw Bracelet

Hello!

Today we're making a straw bracelet, but the same method can be applied to make a necklace too. 

To make these yourself, have a look at our YouTube video or follow this step-by-step guide.  

You will need:

• Plastic Straws
• Pipe Cleaner
• Scissors

Step 1:

Take your straws and cut some pieces off that are about 1cm or slightly bigger. 

Step 2:

Decide if you will have a colour pattern with your bracelet or whether it will be all one colour or completely random. 

Thread your straw piece onto your pipe cleaner and repeat until your pipe cleaner is full covered. 

Step 3:

Bring your pipe cleaner ends together to make a circle and twist the ends together so it's tight. 

Tuck the sharp ends flat and into one of the straw pieces. Slide the straw over the connection so it's smooth the whole way round. 

When you're done... 

Have a look around your house to see what other things you could use instead of a pipe cleaner. Here we used a piece of string:

Kayleigh's Crafts - Make Your Own Washi Tape Crown

Hello!

Today we're making a washi tape crown!

To make these yourself, have a look at our YouTube video or follow this step-by-step guide.  

You will need:

• Cardboard Tube
• Washi Tape
• String or Elastic
• Scissors
• Sharp Pencil or a hole punch

Step 1:

Take your first washi tape, and wrap it around the base of your cardboard tube. Make sure to keep your tape as straight as possible to the edge of the cardboard. 

You can cover your tube with the same tape or you can layer like we have below. Cover your tube with washi tape, making sure to keep each layer as straight as possible. Try to keep the overlap lines in the same place to keep the front of your crown looking smooth.

Step 2:

Decide which end of your tube will be the top of your crown. Cut long triangles into the top of your crown.

We went down to the third layer of washi tape, but you can make as many triangles as needed and as deep as you'd like. 

Step 3:

Take your sharp pencil or hole punch and carefully make a hole either side of your crown, about 1cm from the base. 

Make sure the line where your washi tape meets up is at the back of your head and your holes line up. 

Take your string or elastic and tie each end through each hole, double knotting if needed. 

When you're done... 

Think of some other ways you could attach your crown to your head. We added our crown to a headband but you could put it onto a hair clip or a bobby pin.

Kayleigh's Crafts - Make Your Own Origami Flower

Hello!

Today we're making Tulip style origami flowers. 

To make these yourself, have a look at our YouTube video or follow this step-by-step guide.  

You will need:

• x2 square pieces of paper of exactly the same size
• Something to be your stem (pipe cleaner, lolly stick, straw etc)
• Scissors
• Glue Stick

Step 1:

Take your square and fold it diagonally in half, corner to corner. 

Step 2:

Point your triangle upwards and fold in half from bottom corner to bottom corner. Then open it back out.  

Step 3:

Fold one bottom corner upwards from the middle of the triangle (where the line is) towards the top point to just past the halfway point between the bottom point and the top point. 

Step 4:

Repeat step 3 with the other side. 

Step 5:

Fold the corner at the side, no more than 1cm in. 

Step 6:

Repeat step 5 with the other side. 

Turn your flower over and it should look like this:

Step 7:

Following steps 1 to 6, make another flower.

Step 8:

Take your glue stick and glue the folded side of one of the flowers.  

Place your stem, (for our flower we used a pipe cleaner but you could use a straw or a lolly stick) in the centre of the flower. 

Glue the folded side of the second flower and stick this over your stem and other flower. 

When you're done... 

Have a look around your house to see what other things you could use to make your flowers. We've tried with a magazine and a newspaper but you could try with coloured paper as well. Let us know what else could be used by commenting below.
